I got my novice ticket in1959 (back in the days of 5 wpm) at the age of 15.
After a few months on the air, my code speed was up to 15 wpm and I had been
studing my books and passed I went off to college and got away from radio. Got an EE degree and also one in electronics.
The draft was looming, so I enlisted in the Air Force. Our Uncle sent me around the country and the world, to some fun places and some not some fun
places. I was about to get sent back to the not so fun places, so I ended my AF adventure after 8 years.
the Conditional ticket. As I lived so far from a FCC office, I was given
the test by a local ham, K0JYI.
After a time in civilian life, I became bored. Became a deputy Sheriff. Mostly boring and sometimes scared the stuffing out of me. You had to be REAL careful about shooting back! Tiring of being shot at again, I returned my badge and went back to computers and networks.
Retired due to medical problems. With spare time on my hands, I returned to Ham Radio. As you know, had to start all over. Got my Tech and call KD0IRB. Immediately applied for and got my old call back. 2 meters and repeaters were new to me, but soon the pull of HF was too much to resist. Passed my General with flying colors and started spending my allowance with abandon, purchasing new equipment.
